Background: The objective of this study was to study the efficacy of intracervical Foley’s catheter induction in women with previous history of caesarean section and to evaluate the maternal and fetal outcome of these pregnancies. Methods: It is a prospective analysis of 30 patients whose labour was induced by intracervical Foley’s bulb for VBAC delivery. This study was conducted in KIMS, Hubli. Age, parity, indication of previous caesarean, inter-pregnancy interval and outcome of index pregnancy were studied in detail and analysed. Results: 30 women with previous history of caesarean were included into the study. Various indications of induction during index pregnancies were- post-datism, IUGR, intra-uterine foetal demise and severe pre-eclampsia and eclampsia. Out of 30 women, 18 (60%) had successful VBAC delivery, 12 (40%) underwent repeat LSCS. 19 cases needed augmentation of labour. Indications for caesarean section were failed induction in 5 (16.6%) women, threatened scar rupture in 3 (10%), non-progress of labour in 2 (6.6%) and meconium stained amniotic fluid in 2 (6.6%). No cases of uterine rupture or maternal mortality was noted in the study. Conclusions: In our study the rate of vaginal birth was 60% without major maternal complications. Hence intracervical Foley’s catheter is an effective, safe and acceptable for labour induction in women with previous caesarean

Potassium is involved in a diverse range of processes within plants that are needed for their growth, yield and better quality. The polyhalite as a hydrated evaporate mineral that can be used directly as a source of potassic fertilizer. However, research on polyhalite's appropriateness and effectiveness, the present investigation aimed to evaluate the effect of polyhalite on growth, yield attributes, and yield of blackgram variety ADT 5 at Chinnakandiankuppam village, Vriddhachalam, Cuddalore district, Tamil Nadu, during 2021. The experiment was laid out in randomized block design consisting of ten treatments viz., T1 (absolute control), T2 (-K), T3 (12.5 kg K2O ha-1 as muriate of potash (MOP)), T4 (25 kg K2O ha-1as MOP), T5 (37.5 kg K2O ha-1 as MOP), T6 (50 kg K2O ha-1 as MOP), T7 (12.5 kg K2O ha-1 as polyhalite),  T8 (25 kg K2O ha-1 as polyhalite), T9 (37.5 kg K2O ha-1 as polyhalite), T10 (50 kg K2O ha-1 as polyhalite). The experiment revealed that the application of 37.5 kg K2O ha-1 as polyhalite (T9) significantly (5%) enhanced the growth attributes (plant height (38.7 cm), number of branches plant-1 (12.97), leaf area index (2.13), number of nodules plant-1 (18.76) and dry matter production (1972 hg ha-1), yield attributes (pod length (8.21 cm), number of pods plant-1 (20.05), number of seeds pod-1 (7.14) and test weight (3.53 g)) and grain yield (1439 kg ha-1), haulm yield (1876 kg ha-1) of blackgram. Thus the study would be helpful to farmers for yield maximization of blackgram through polyhalite as potassic fertilizer.

Plywood base was used as a platform to place the entire equipment. Stainless steel blade was attached to the shaft of motor of 240V which acts as cutting unit. Stainless steel cylinder with supporting iron rod is used for feeding little gourds. A rectangular frame made up of metallic stands was used as main frame and supporting main units. A collection tray made up of metal sheet was used for collection of slices. Moisture content of little gourds was 85%. The dimensions of little gourds were measured using digital Vernier callipers and weight of each little gourd was measured using electronic weighing balance. Average length and diameter of little gourds were found to be 17.93mm and 18.88mm respectively. The other parameters like Sphericity, roundness, cylindrical and elliptical were found to be 0.14cm, 3.73cm2, 19.87cm3 and 0.89cm-3 respectively. Average weight of the little gourds were found to be 16.5g. The surface area and bulk density of little gourds were found to be 180.6 sq.cm and 500 kg/m3. Performance evaluation of little gourd cutter was performed where slicing operation was performed at different motor speeds and voltages. High motor speed with voltage of 240V gave slices of 0.75mm which were suitable for household consumption

Background: The ultrasound guided transversus abdominis plane (TAP) block which provides effective analgesia after lower abdominal surgeries including caesarean section. It is a simple and reliable technique. In this prospective, randomized double-blind study, we determined the efficacy of TAP block using 0.25% Bupivacaine and 0.9N Saline with respect to VAS for pain, postoperative Tramadol consumption and post-operative ondansetron usage. Methods: This study was conducted on 100 adult patients of ASA physical status I and II in the   age group of 18 to 40 years undergoing elective lower segment cesarean section under spinal anaesthesia. Study group received TAP block with 0.25% Bupivacaine and control group received 10 ml of 0.9N saline on each side. Patients were analyzed for postoperative pain by pain score (at rest, on movement, on cough) using VAS was recorded at 0, ½, 1, 2, 4, 6, 12 and 24 hours postoperatively. Need for rescue analgesia was assessed by time to first dose of Tramadol requirement and total dose of Tramadol over 24 hours of postoperative period. Ondansetron (4 mg i.v.) was administered whenever nausea score was more than 2 or the patient vomited. All the data was noted using uniform performs. Results: Patients received TAP block with 0.25% Bupivacaine had better pain scores at first hour of postoperative period during rest, cough and movement which was statistically significant (p0.001).Conclusions: TAP block using ultrasound provides substantial reduction in Tramadol consumption, time to first dose of rescue tramadol when compared with control group. This study reinforces the recommendation for TAP as a part of multimodal post-operative analgesic regimen

    Get PDF
Horizontal movement of pelagic fish predator, Yellowfin (Thunnus albacares) tuna, in the oceanic waters of Bay of Bengal has been decoded. Pop-up Satellite Archival Tags (PSATs) were attached to adult tunas to study their distribution and migration. For this, environmental satellite data were matched with the tag locations to understand and characterize habitats of this species. A sub-set of the tag data was selected corresponding to the maximum resident time of tuna indicated by a high density data points. The tagged tuna spent 60 to 70% of its time in the waters having surface temperature within 28o to 29.5oC and sea surface height anomaly within+5 to +12 cm. The tag positions were located on the satellite images; chlorophyll, sea surface temperature, zooplankton and sea surface height anomaly. The two conditions, specific range of temperature and prey abundance, were found necessary for aggregation of tuna
